13,000 1968 Mercury Cougar - XR-7

This cougar was ordered & purchased from sunland mercury in glendale arizona on june 23, 1968 and has lived itsentire life in dry sunny phoenix, arizona until i purchased it from the original owner in june of 2014. The car wasdriven daily and have all records from purchase date as well. The engine is the "x code" 390 2bl with a c-6merc-o-matic transmission, power steering, power disc brakes, ice cold whisper-aire a/c with tinted glass and comeswith the original am-fm stereo radio. It did have one repaint in 1997 and shows very well for it's age. There are afew blemishes in the paint, but very nice driver-local car show quality paint. The car drives down the interstateat 80 mph with no issues, headlight lids work as they should, has the updated sequential turn signal box with theplasma led bulbs installed. Numbers matching engine, heads and transmission are all original to the car. Original275 rear end gears still in car. Front end is tight with new power steering cylinder and hoses, ball joints, tierod ends and drives straight. Engine was recently rebuilt with comp thumper cam kit, sounds great when cruising tocar shows. Recently rebuilt the c-6 transmission, both having less than 1000 miles since done. Chrome bumpersappear to be original and still show very well with no pitting in the corners as well as the driver's side mirrorlooks great. The quarter window chrome is as nice as new, no pitting or blemishes. Brand new chrome magnum 500wheels wrapped in bfg radials. Car comes with original order sheet, original window sticker and also have thearizona title and envelope that was mailed to the original owner on august 19, 1968. When rebuilding the engine, iinstalled an original "s code" 4bl cast intake (original 2bl intake is included in the sale). Has a brand newholley 600 4bl carb installed with working choke. New window and door panel rubber seals & fuzzies. Rocker panelmoldings are nice driver quality with a few nicks & blemishes. The drivers seat is the most warn in the interior,has had some cracks repaired, but still looks decent. The head liner is very nice and still tight. The dash pad isstraight and there is a small crack near the speaker. There are a few dings in the stainless trim around thewindshield. The console is nice and the light on the back of it works too. New gas tank & sending unit & gas guageworks. Also included in the sale is the "s tube" that comes off the underside of the air cleaner to the manifold. This car is fun to drive, gets lots of thumbs up and still shows the 19 year old grecian gold paint pretty darnwell. All the lights in the interior work and so do the toggle switches on the wood grain dash. The only thing thatdoes not work is the console clock, i never checked it to see why. Wipers and foot pedal work as they should asdoes the heater and blower motor on all speeds. No rust in trunk or any other place on this dry climate car. AM/FM✔ Air Conditioning

This stunning cougar is one of 4,024 xr7 convertibles built for 1969. It has a rare dark aqua metallic exterior/light aqua interior factory color combination (one of 48 in 1969). The seat leather is original, whereas carpet, mats and tonneau cover are new. All chrome trim pieces, including bumpers, grill, hood, deck, belt and wheel lip moldings have been re-chromed, polished and restored. The white convertible top (power) works well and is in good condition, with one small area showing wear near driver rear ¼ window. The original top was black. Under the hood is an m code 351 windsor 4v (factory rated at 290 hp sae gross) connected to an fmx automatic, both of which are believed to be original to the car. A high performance ford 90x-424a intake manifold, comparable to ones installed on shelby gt350s of the period, plus a new edelbrock 600 cfm carb, are installed. Running cat valve covers and oval air cleaner dress up the engine compartment. Magnum 500s (15x7) with aqua running cat centers are a great fit for this special cat. Ac components under dash are ready for connection at firewall. Recent new parts include heater core, pertronix electronic ignition, and power steering system with all correct hoses and other components. The suspension has been upgraded with new kyb shocks and a 1” competition handling front sway bar. The clock has been converted to quartz movement and keeps flawless time. Restoration work by previous owner included sandblasting of nearly entire body, hot tanking of major body parts including doors and rear deck, installation of new floor pans, and application of dp-90 and new paint. Previous owner also rebuilt the engine with mild performance upgrades, rebuilt the transmission and installed new parts/systems including brakes, aluminum radiator, headlight vacuum motor, driveshaft and exhaust. Extra parts including interior and exterior trim, the original air cleaner and valve covers, etc. Come with the car. An aqua xr7 center console armrest pad is available for purchase separately (the installed armrest pad is from a standard interior). The gas filler door bezel with cat on black background is from a 1970 eliminator (not available in 1969). The wood gearshift handle is rare. Both rear quarter panel extensions have "dimples" where the extensions have been overtightened from inside the trunk -- a sad but somewhat common occurrence for these cars. Service records since purchase by second owner in 1973, and shop manuals, including chassis, wiring and vacuum hose diagrams, are included. AM/FM✔ Air Conditioning
